At 2600+ ft overlooking Los gatos and a sliver of hiway 17 just near Lexinton. Tough uphill 4 mile grind, turning around to head back but paused to enjoy the view and the quiet.
Even though you may have visited my photo site that I link to on all the hike and park pages here at Hiking the Bay Area, you may not be aware that I regularly update the galleries on that site with new photos. While my goal is to try and explore one new spot a week that still leaves one hike a week where I generally hike someplace I've been before (one day week is my "Grocery Trek" see Oct 2 2013 post for details). Since I take my camera with me every time I hike those updates can happen fairly regularly. They frequently give a new perspective on the trail, either because of things like seasonal weather, animal, bug, flower, plants or insect sightings, whatever.
After much deliberation, and honestly forgetting about the whole thing for a long while and then waking up one morning with the answer right there, I have finally come up with a great solution to a convenient way to get you to these updates. It's a new gallery on the Hiking the Bay Area page on my photo site called Trail Updates. This gallery will feature just the latest shots from my weekly treks. It is sorted with the latest photos on top so the latest photos are right in plain sight. I'm hoping that any of you who may regularly check out the photos I take while hiking will find this a convenient way to keep up with my latest images from out on the trail. To get there you can look for the "Trail Updates" link in the Hiking The Bay Area section on my photo site at : www.LCPhoto.SmugMug.com. Of course since you're reading my blog you get a direct link to the page! - Trail Updates. bc Just finished Hiking in a new area for me, the Sierra Azul OSP. I did a fairly challanging 9 mile hike getting about as close to Mt Unuhumun (sp?) as you can. Really nice variety of flora and views of the Silicon Valley. Look for the complete write-up on the site in the next couple days. Here's a handy way I've found to accomplish two items on my weekly ToDo list, specifically, one of my three weekly hikes and grocery shopping. I simply strap on the old backpack and take a couple extra bags and take a city walk to the grocery store. I found a nice scenic route to get me there that is a bit longer than the "direct route" but takes me off the main roads and makes it a little over a 5 mile hike. Since I can end up with 20 or 30 lbs. or so of stuff I do take the shorter direct route home, I'm not that much of a glutton for punishment! Granted I don't have a big family to feed, just me really, but I've found that the majority of the time I can easily carry what I need. Of course I look at my list before I go and if it is obviously more than I can carry I drive. One side benefit is that I have found it certainly cuts down on the "impulse buys" as you have a tendency to really think twice when you have to literally carry that extra item home!
