Here's a handy way I've found to accomplish two items on my weekly ToDo list, specifically, one of my three weekly hikes and grocery shopping. I simply strap on the old backpack and take a couple extra bags and take a city walk to the grocery store. I found a nice scenic route to get me there that is a bit longer than the "direct route" but takes me off the main roads and makes it a little over a 5 mile hike. Since I can end up with 20 or 30 lbs. or so of stuff I do take the shorter direct route home, I'm not that much of a glutton for punishment! Granted I don't have a big family to feed, just me really, but I've found that the majority of the time I can easily carry what I need. Of course I look at my list before I go and if it is obviously more than I can carry I drive. One side benefit is that I have found it certainly cuts down on the "impulse buys" as you have a tendency to really think twice when you have to literally carry that extra item home!
